Dragon Age 2 continues the RPG saga featured in the first game, Dragon Age. Like its predecessor, you will guide a group of heroes through a dark, twisted world filled with magic and mayhem. Hawke is the main protagonist among these heroes, and he or she can be customized according to your liking. You can choose Hawke’s gender, class and overall appearance. In addition, if you won on the first Dragon Age game, you can import the saved data for a more personalized gaming experience.
In any case, regardless of whether you import an old game or start a new one, the basic premise is the same.
- The Story
Ten years after the events of the first game, Ferelden is still in turmoil. Hawke, a warrior who survived the Blight, has been called to save the land. However, he/she realizes they cannot do this alone, which is why Hawke amasses many allies. Most are completely new characters, though you will encounter Flemeth, the iconic witch found in the first Dragon Age. As for any other Dragon Age characters, it is unknown if they will be featured, since their stories were completed with the game’s expansion packs. But the possibility is always there, especially as Dragon Age 2 is still in development.
- Non-linear Narrative and Gameplay, Evolving Story
Anyway, who matters the most in Dragon Age 2 is you, Hawke. You must determine his/her fate through the decisions you make. These decisions are built into the main storyline. And since this storyline is created in a nonlinear, yet “framed” manner, you can create a multitude of plots within Dragon Age 2. Varick, a bard from within the game, relays these plot points each time a decision is made. This helps you stay on track with your own unique storyline. It also allows you to experiment with different decisions without starting the game over. However, if you go extremely off-course, you may want to save your “new” story arc in another file. This will allow your primary storyline to remain uninterrupted.
